How To Configure Dreamweaver For FTP

Configure a Connection

The steps below apply to both FTP and SFTP.

1. Click Manage Sites from the the Files panel dropdown menu.

2. Click New to add a new site, or select an existing site and click on the edit icon.

3. Select the Servers category in the Site Setup box, and select one of the following options:

a. To add a new server, click on the Add New Server button.

b. To work on an existing server, click the Select Existing Server button.

4. Enter the name of the server that you like to use in the Server Name text box.

5. Select FTP or SFTP from the Connect Using pop-up menu.

6. Set Connect Using to FTP or SFTP.

a. The "FTP" address is your domain's name.

b. The Username and Password will be for the FTP account associated with the domain.

c. Choose the directory on the remote server where you store documents visible to the public in the Root Directory text box.

7. In the Web URL text box, enter the URL of your website.

8. Click the More Options section if you need to set more options.

9. Click Test to test out the connection.

10. Select Use Passive FTP if your firewall configuration requires the use of passive FTP. 

11. Select Use IPv6 Transfer Mode if you are using an IPv6-enabled FTP server. 
 
12. Select Use Proxy if you want to specify a proxy host or proxy port.

13. Click Save to close the Basic screen.

14. In the Servers category, specify whether the server you just added or edited is a remote server, a testing server, or both.

The Files panel will display the content of the folder setup as local.
